This periodical is primarily designed for the sharing
of academic work in the field of Bābī-Bahā'ī Studies especially as it
relates to the primary scriptural sources of the 19th century Bābī and
Bahā'ī religions founded by the Persian born messianic claimants
Sayyid `Alī Muhammad Shirazi , the Bāb (1819-1850) and Mīrzā Ḥusayn `Alī
Nūrī Bahā'-Allāh (1817-1892). They both founded intimately related
yet sometimes disparate religions. Hence this periodical title Syzygy
which can indicate a unitative relationship between "opposites". A
fuller printed version of Syzygy: A Journal of Bābī-Bahā'ī Studies with
the articles in complete form will begin to appear from mid-late 2008
with the assistance of Ohio University at Athens (USA) where I am
currently a research scholar.
Aside from the publication of semi-critical editions
of certain Arabic and Persian writings of the Bāb and Bahā'-Allāh
Syzygy will occasionally focus upon such closely related areas of study
as Shī`ī Islam especially in the form of the early Shaykhism of Shaykh
Aḥmad al-Ahsā'ī (d. 1241/1826) and Sayyid Kāẓim Rashtī (d.1260/1843).
