In this paper it
will be argued that there are scriptures within the major world religions
which anticipate and sometimes celebrate, in a partially realized
eschatological fashion, a future global oneness of religion and humankind.
Evidence for this will be presented as will the roots of messianic globalism
in the Bābī religion and its development with Bahā`ī. The universal address in
perocipes of the Sūrat al-mulk (Surah of the Dominion) in the Qayyūm
al-asmā' ("lit. "Self-Susisting [Deity] of the Divine Names") and
other Bābī texts will be discussed in the light of early Shī`ī
messianism and Bābī-Bahā`ī globalism.
