زيارت نامه جناب طاهره
THE
ZIYĀRAT-NĀMA
OF
MĪRZĀ ḤUSAYN `ALĪ, BAHĀ'-ALLĀH
FOR
FĀṬIMAH BARĀGHĀNĪ (d. 1852 CE),
KNOWN AS
طاهره
ṬĀHIRIH
(THE
PURE ONE)
قرة العين
AND
QURRAT AL-`AYN
("THE SOLACE OF THE EYES")
IN PROGRESS 2007-8.
"And amongst them
was she who was entitled Qu'rratu'l-'Ayn the daughter of Haji Salih,
the sage of Qazvin, the erudite doctor. She, according to what is
related, was skilled in diverse arts, amazed the understandings and
thoughts of the most eminent masters by her eloquent dissertations
on the exegesis and tradition of the Perspicuous Book, and was a
mighty sign in the doctrines of the glorious Shaykh of Ahsa. At the
Supreme Shrines she borrowed light on matters divine from the lamp
of Kazim, and freely sacrificed her life in the way of the Bab. She
discussed and disputed with the doctors and sages, loosing her
tongue to establish her doctrine. Such fame did she acquire that
most people who were scholars or mystics sought to hear her speech
and were eager to become acquainted with her powers of speculation
and deduction. She had a brain full of tumultuous ideas, and
thoughts vehement 20 and restless. In many places she
triumphed over the contentious, expounding the most subtle
questions. When she was imprisoned in the house of [Mahmud] the
Kalantar of Tihran, and the festivities and rejoicings of a wedding
were going on, the wives of the city magnates who were present as
guests were so charmed with the beauty of her speech that,
forgetting the festivities, they gathered round her, diverted by
listening to her words from listening to the melodies, and rendered
indifferent by witnessing her marvels to the contemplation of the
pleasant and novel sights which are incidental to a wedding. In
short in elocution she was the calamity of the age, and in
ratiocination the trouble of the world. Of fear or timidity there
was no trace in her heart, nor had the admonitions of the
kindly-disposed any profit or fruit for her. Although she was of
[such as are] damsels [meet] for the bridal bower, yet she wrested
preeminence from stalwart men, and continued to strain the feet of
steadfastness until she yielded up her life at the sentence of the
mighty doctors in Tihran. But were we to occupy ourselves with these
details the matter would end in prolixity" (Abdu'l-Baha, A
Traveller's Narrative, p. 18)

Ṭāhira and utilized also for various other eminent female
Bahā'īs including Maryam...

بسم الله العلي الاعلى
In
the Name of God, the Exalted, the Most Exalted.
[1]
O
Most Exalted Pen!
Joyfulness failed to take hold of Thee
during those Days of Thy Lord,
the Exalted, the Most Exalted, for
thereon Thou didst cry out upon the
twigs of the Lote-Tree of the Extremity (sidrat
al-muntahā) with
the melodies of Bahā'.
[2]
This
even though that Mighty Calamity
(al-muṣībat al-`uẓmā) did
seize Thee whereupon a fearful cry was
noised betwixt earth and heaven.
[3]
Then
recall that which befell Thee
according to the
dictates of the Divine Decree, that
tear drops might flow
down within the
Abyss of the Divine Names over
this Calamity which caused Riḍwān to shake, Existent Being (al-ikwān)
to be agitated, the realities of the Realm of Possibility (haqā'iq
al-imkān) to be disturbed and the Eyes of the Divine of Grandeur to
weep sore upon the Throne of His Name the All-Merciful.
[II]
[1] Say:
`The
Primordial Divine Mercy was sent down from the Will (mashiyyat) of
Thy Lord, the Exalted, the All-Glorious (al-abhā)
[2] and the First Sun (ḍiyā')
beamed forth from the Horizon of Eternity. [3] The Primary
Salutation (salām) was evident through the Tongue of the
Divine Grandeur (lisān al-`aẓimat) in the Kingdom of Realization (malakūt
al-imḍā'). [4] For such be upon thee O thou Supreme Sign (ayat al-kubrā'),
Most Elevated Word (kalimat al-`ulyā), Luminous and Mighty Pearl and
Countenance of the Divine Unicity (ṭal`at al-aḥadiyya) in the
Empyrean of the Divine Decree (jabarūt al-imḍā')!
[5] How then can I
possibly make befitting mention of thy tribulations, O thou Crimson
Leaf (waraqat al-ḥamrā')?
[6] By God! As a result of thy disassociation [fall] (suqūṭ) from
the Tree of the Cause (shajarat al-amr) the very leaves of the
Lote-Tree of the Extremity (Sidrat al-Muntahā) fell down and the
branches [twigs] (afnān) of the Leafy Tree of Eternity (dawḥat al-baqā')
were broken off ! [7] The branches of the Tree of Blessedness (afnan
shajarat al-tuba) were dried up, [8] the hearts of the chosen
ones (qulūb al-awliyā') were drained of blood, [9] the
countenances of the pure ones (al-aṣfiyā') were crestfallen [10] and
the inmost hearts of the God-fearing (af'idat al-atqiyā') were
shattered in the Paradise of Reunion (jannat al-mārwā) [see Q. 53:
15b]. [11] The Spirit of Faith (rūḥ al-amīn) wept in the vicinity of
the Presence of Grandeur (maḥḍar al-kubriyā') [12] and of the
Master (ṣāḥib) of the inmates of earth and heaven!
